2019 Texas A&M Athletics Hall of Fame: Joseph Jones

Joseph Jones from nearby Normangee Texas
helped A&M to new heights on the basketball court from 2004 to 2008 he
and the Aggies played in the NIT his first season in Jones’s sophomore
campaign A&M marched back to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 19
years he went on to play in two more NCAA tournaments reaching the sweet 16
as a junior it was the first time the program advanced that far in 27 years
basically Joe was a type of player that he made those around him better
some people get better because of someone else
what Joe helped make everybody better he made the team better things that
hadn’t been accomplished before with Texas A&M basketball
it started happening when Joe Jones came in
Jones was All-Big 12 every season including his appearance on the All
Freshman team in ’05 he is still in the school’s top five and career starts
points and free throws made and still in the top ten and career rebounds field
goals and blocked shots Joe was always consistent
had Joe been a little bit more selfish you know Joe probably would’ve left
after his sophomore or junior year and had he been a little bit more selfish Joe would
probably the leading scorer in Texas A&M basketball history like it was only
yesterday when they said the Pride of Normangee Joe Jones still brings chills
to my body to hear that because hey as everybody felt like and all his team
feels like hey it was time to go play it was time to go win after A&M Jones
continued to play professionally in multiple countries recently winning a
championship at Puerto Rico he is back in his homeland Aggieland
tonight as a member of the Hall of Fame ladies and gentlemen the pride of Normangee Joseph Jones
