A Jaw-Dropping Beat Boxer || STEVE HARVEY

– The only crowd harder to please than New Yorkers headed
to work on the subway, it the audience at the
world famous Apollo Theater. Well, my next guest is so talented that he’s
been embraced by both. A few months ago he went viral when Will Smith posted one of
his impromptu performances; check this out. (beatboxing) – Please welcome Verbal Ase.
(audience cheering) – [Steve] Good to see you again, man. – Good to see you, too, man. – Will Smith posted another
video of you after that because he was obsessed at that point. so, how did that change your life, man? – [Verbal Ase] When I found
out Will Smith posted my video, my manager told me, and
I was like, “ya right”; I went to his Facebook
page, scrolled down, (yelling) And instantly had a headache. – Alright, let me tell you all, I met this guy three years
ago, at Showtime At The Apollo. You don’t hear a lot
about beatboxing anymore, so how did you even get started? – [Verbal Ase] I started
beatboxing in high school; I was showing my friend in class all the crazy sounds I can make. I was on the table doing voices. (Mickey Mouse voice)
(Spongebob voice) I was doing stuff like
that and making beatboxing (starts beatboxing) Doing stuff like that, and then I looked up and the whole classroom’s clapping for me. I was like, “What are
you guys clapping for?” But they were like, “Dude,
that’s really good.” So, after that I started doing
a whole bunch of local shows, I opened up for KRS-One,
Method Man, Ghostface Killah, doing a lot of underground
hip hop shows after that. – [Steve] How’d you end up performing in New York City subway? – [Verbal Ase] So, I’m
originally from California, and I grew up in Las Vegas, and I performed in New York in 2008 for the first time with
this break dancing group. I got invited to another show, performed in the subway, and I made more money in the subway than I did at my part-time
job just in two hours, and that really set things off for me. (audience cheering) – Well, I heard that you
remixed one of our songs, what song did you remix? – The theme to the show. – [Steve] The theme to the show? – Ya. – Lets hear it, man.
– Alright. (beatboxing theme song) (audience clapping along) ♪ Every day is a good day ♪ ♪ When you’re hangin’ with Steve ♪ ♪ When you’re hangin’ with Steve ♪ ♪ One more time ♪ ♪ Everyday is a good day ♪ ♪ When you’re hangin’ with Steve ♪ ♪ When you’re hangin’ with Steve ♪ ♪ When you’re hangin’ with Steve ♪ (audience cheering) – Give it up everybody for Verbal Ase!
