Accidentally Preserved: film intro for “Cheer Up” (1924)

Hi. I’m Ben Model. I’m a silent film accompanist
and historian…and this is “Accidentally Preserved”. Our next film is “CHEER UP” from
1924 starring Cliff Bowes. This is one of the films in the series that is not from my
own collection. A collector named John McElwee of the Greenbriar Picture Blog saw the work
I was doing, about a year ago, posting my films on YouTube, and sent me a bunch of films
from his own collection to contribute to the series. This one was pretty rare. Cliff Bowes
— while he worked quite a bit in the 1920s — a lot of his starring shorts aren’t really
around, or survive, so this is kind of rare. If you want to know more about Cliff Bowes,
go to accidentallypreserved.com to read film notes by Steve Massa about this particular
film and about the eight others that are on the “Accidentally Preserved” series. You can
also order your own copy of the DVD of “Accidentally Preserved” on the website. This Wednesday,
it’s “CHEER UP”, starring Cliff Bowes…1924.
