Basic to Advanced Cheerleading Jumps & Tumbling : How to Land a Jump in Cheerleading

Hi! I’m Lucy Spain on behalf of Expert Village
here to talk about cheerleading jumps and tumbling. Now that we’ve learned the preparation
for a jump, it’s important to know the proper landing. First and foremost, it’s really important
that we don’t make a lot of noise. It may sound like a minor detail, but it can cost
you points in competition and just overall be really sloppy. When you land, the best
way to stay quiet is to cushion yourself. If you land with your feet straight, you’re
going to make a ton of noise. If you can cushion yourself, that’s really important. Just note
the difference by yourself of when you land flatfooted and also when you cushion yourself
with the balls of your feet and take most of the pressure off on your knees. One of
the second things that’s really important when you’re landing is to make sure our feet
snap fully back together so they’re touching. We don’t want to do a jump and land with our
feet out one in front of the other. It just looks really sloppy. Make sure if you can’t
get that jump that high, it’s really important to first and foremost, make sure those feet
are snapped back together. We also want to make sure we don’t land on the side of our
feet. We don’t want to roll our ankles. It’s really, really dangerous. Make sure you always
land flatfooted cushioned with the ball of your feet. Bending the knees is most important
thing. You definitely want to cushion a lot of that with your knees, or you’re going to
end up with an injury.
