Hi! I’m Lucy Spain on behalf of Expert Village
here to talk about cheerleading jumps and tumbling. Before we can begin to jump, we
need to know the proper preparation for our jumps. First and foremost, our arms are where
we’re going to get most of our momentum for our jumps. We want to make sure that our arms
are properly stretched out. You want to make sure you get a wide rang of motion, because
that’s how you’re going to get your best lift. For most squads, your coach is going to dictate
your starting position. This is going to be the most common. We’ve got our feet touching
nice and straight together, our hands on our hips. We always want to make sure our chest
stays up. It’s really important to keep your chest up. Once you’re at this position, the
second position you’re going to go to is here. This is called the high V in cheerleading.
We’re going to make sure we hit this next. After that, we start the bending of the knees
where we’re going to pull our momentum from. Once we start bending at the knees, our arms
are going to simultaneously cross in front of us. This right here is going to be the
lowest point of your jump. From here, we take all of our momentum from our knees and our
arms, swing up into our jump, and land. It’s really important that everyone on the squad
does the same preparation. When it’s fast, this is what it’s going to look like. Ready.
That’s the preparation.
