Boxing vs Skeet Shooting | Can They Switch Sports? | Sports Swap Challenge

(SPORTS SWAP) To now say I am an Olympian
is such an honour. Nicely done. Amber Hill, another young star
of this sport. It’s so unique. Here’s the first two. It has completely changed
my life. The remarkable Joe Joyce –
this kid can do it all. It’s such a great feeling
to represent your country. Joyce just keeps on coming,
it’s a crime. It was always my dream to be
number one in the world and…I got close. – Hey.
– You all right? – How you doing?
– You must be Amber. (BOXING/SHOOTING) Well, this is my first time at
a boxing club, I literally know
nothing about it. Like, normally it’s packed
with, you know, sweaty people, sweaty boxers. Think I’m a little bit nervous,
but I’m one of these people who are completely up
for trying new things, trying new sports
and just learning. So just going to walk
down to the skeet range. What are you actually
expecting it to be? Targets and stuff like that? There’s going to be two targets
that you’ll be shooting at. It’s a lot to take in, especially when you’re
starting out. It’s like learning to drive. There’s so many things
you have to think of. (THE KIT) My turn. I didn’t even know boxers
had to have wraps. Like, this is the thing –
I was so uneducated. But I have my little pink ones
wrapping them up on my wrists. Have you ever done it before
on anyone else? No, no. I’m ready. This is the gun room,
so I think it’s time we find you a gun. You can get guns for,
say, hundreds of pounds or you can spend up to £50,000
on a gun, but I think this gun will be
about the right size for you as you are over six foot. Whoa…! The first time I picked up a
gun here, they are quite heavy, you know, if you’re holding
them in the same position for a while,
your muscles do start to ache. (AVERAGE SHOTGUN WEIGHT=3KG) So what size are your feet? I’m a size four –
what about you? 13. So, shoot in the wrong place, and the bits will all be
flying towards your eyes, so that’s why we have
the glasses. – Sorted!
– Looking sick! So are these, like,
the smallest ones? I normally have 16s-18s
or something. (AVERAGE GLOVE WEIGHT=16OZ) If I’ve lost a nail
by the end of it… Don’t blame me. (THE INITIATION) The clay is coming from
that hole above your head. (OLYMPIC SKEET=8 SHOOTING
POSITIONS (OF VARYING DIFFICULTIES) I’ll let you take a shot.
See how you get on. Shout pull when you’re ready. Pull! Ah, no, I missed it,
I missed it. That first one I did, where it
was coming over my head and then down, that was like…
That was real tricky. That’s hard, man! Apparently, these are, like,
half the speed as what she shoots,
so I was struggling. Excuse my language! Plus, the added pressure
of you guys. OK, Amber, I know you haven’t
boxed before, but let me just see
what you’ve got. Here’s a bag. That’s it, not bad, go on –
hit. It’s so good to throw a punch. Well, the first time she was
just right-hand happy, just throwing her right hand. Yeah, it’s not a bad
first attempt. The technique was… – Uh…
– Uh… (THE BASICS) So, if you stand like this, your knees want to be
a little bit bent. Joe actually did really well
right from the beginning. His stance was very, very good.
Quite sturdy. The way he was leaning forward, I had to keep reminding
him sometimes… If you’re leaning
on your back foot, you’ll go like that and shoot over the top
or probably fall over ..but that is just like
any beginner. It was the same with me
when I first started. You’re not perfect when
you first pick up a gun, you don’t know what you’re
doing, to be honest. There you go, that is a good
shooting position. So you’re getting your stance, you’re going to be on the balls
of your feet. You want one hand up in front –
that’s it. So you’re looking over
your glove. OK, and this right hand is going to be protecting
your chin. That’s it,
that’s a pretty good start. I remember when
I was first starting, I was like… I don’t know, there’s so much
to think about. You’re thinking about
your footwork, your guard. Joe is a great guy, he’s
achieved some awesome stuff. To be taking a few pointers
off of him is going to be a real unique experience. The first one is a jab.
Push off on your back foot. (JAB) That’s it, that’s good. The next one
is the straight back hand, so out and back. (CROSS) Ah, that’s pretty good. You’ll start your gun up
a little bit higher and when the target comes out, you basically,
if the target is here, you want to be shooting
its feet off. So put the cartridge
in the bottom barrel, shut the gun –
you are now ready to shoot. To actually load
the gun myself from when
you’re ejecting the bullet, so it just kind of fire out
once you open it, so it’s quite cool
and, like, smoking. Keep the gun flowing smoothly. So follow it? – Yeah.
– No pressure. All right. Pull. Perfect. Perfect shot. OK, so say you’re going
to throw a jab, you’re going to block it
with your right hand. Well, definitely being
quite a small girl, going into a boxing ring,
I think, can be seen as being
a bit intimidating, but I think
it’s only if you let it. You’ve just got to go and
rise up to the opportunity and have a bit of fun. That’s good, good. So I’ll do it with you gently, – I’ll do it with you gently…
– Are you sure? Otherwise I’ll be on the floor! OK, now you can do it with me. If you’re sparring
or having shots back, then it kind of throws you, cos you’re already thinking
so many things. (THE DIET) So, sat down for some food and this is the sort of thing I’m guessing you’d be eating? And that’s the kind
of thing I’d be eating. Being a super heavyweight,
I don’t have a weight target, so I can eat what I like,
which is very good. (SUPER-HEAVYWEIGHT=91KG+) I wish I was in that category. I maybe eat this for my dinner,
but… I’d probably eat both,
actually, eat the salad first and then
move on to the… Well, that’s the starter, then. You need to have protein
in your diet, especially if you’re
training hard, because your body
is repairing muscles, but also building
at the same time. I think it’s really important
to be fit and healthy for what I do,
so I maintain that body type and I think that will
definitely give me an advantage when my gun fits me perfectly. Wait, wait, wait…
All fun and games aside. Come on, that makes more sense. (THE WORKOUT) You can skip, right? Well, I did it
when I was younger, once or twice, so… – Let’s see!
– Let’s see you first, show me how it’s done. Well, I can’t really
follow that, can I? I should have gone first. Right. Riverdance! (THE CHALLENGE) So you’re going to do
some more work on the bag. Hopefully I’ve improved
a little bit. We’ll soon find out. (60 SECONDS) (LAND AS MANY HITS AS POSSIBLE) You’ve got 60 seconds
on the bag. Your time starts now. Quicker! More! That’s it. That’s it!
Try moving around the bag. Turn your wrists. You make it look really easy. Come on, keep hitting the bag,
keep hitting the bag, don’t stop, that’s it! (62 HITS) I’m amazed about how much
I actually improved in such a short period of time. He basically explained some of
the basic aspects of boxing, explained through
some of the punches and, over the day, I feel
like I’ve learned so much. In that brief session, I thought you picked it up
quite well. You know, you got your footwork
going, you got the guard up, chin could be down
a little bit more. I’ve got Nicola Adams
down for sparring. She’s just in the other room
there. I’ll take her on! I’d love to go boxing again, I’ve just got such a buzz
off it. Maybe I could build it into
my exercise regime as well. (10 SHOTS) (HIT AS MANY CLAYS AS POSSIBLE) The targets will be coming out
at the same time from both the high
and low tower. Pull! Pull! So I shot nine out of ten.
Do you think you can beat it? – I’ll give it a go.
– OK. I’ve missed it,
I’ve missed it! Pull! – Missed it.
– That’s all right. It was on safety as well! That’s all right. Argh! Pull. – Yes.
– Oh…! I thought I had
the technique down, I was following it with
the gun, but it just wasn’t… I got one of them,
but it was tough. You shot one out of ten, but that is still very,
very good because you are shooting
an Olympic skeet, – which is…
– They’re fast, they’re fast. I’m impressed you shot one,
so well done. Ah, thanks. Yeah, you were amazing there, shooting two at a time
and that, just like nothing. Just the more you do it
the better you get. So is that hats off, then,
to me? (THE SHOWBOAT) So now we’re just going to have
a bit of fun. You throw these up
and I’ll shoot them. – Sounds like a plan.
– Yep. It was really fun
throwing the clay pigeons and have her just
shoot them down. It was like “bang, bang!”
each one, every time. Right, so to make things
a little bit harder we’re going to try shooting
empty cartridges. Yep. (SPORTS SWAP)

  1. Was so fun watch that. Shooting and Boxing is a good couple. Is great to learn another sports and go out from our confort zone. It's would be funny

  2. Do a weightlifting vs gymnastics video, with the petite little ladies not the male gymnastics that would be side splitting funny.
