Budget-Friendly Costumes on Studio512

Events, fashion, food and so much more at Studio 512. Weekdays at 12:30 on KXAN There’s still time for a cute and creative costume that won’t break the
bank. Allison Mack of Austin Mom’s blog is here to tell us how we can combine what we have at home with budget friendly items from Dollar Tree to create some costume magic for our little trick or treaters. Kristin Jensen is our mom assistant today. How are you guys
thanks for being here. We’re good thank you for having us. Let’s go through our costume starting with our knight in shining armor. Yeah so, again this is all about
taking what you have at home and creating something thats affordable because Halloween costumes can be so expensive. Yes. So he’s a little knight. All of this
came from the Dollar Tree store. That’s great. Everything is actually a dollar
so we’re looking at maybe a five dollar costume here. Maybe even a little bit less. I love it. So you’ve got his little chest armor, he’s got his axe and they are even making little glow sticks that come in an axe as well. He has a sword but he has an axe somewhere. It’s so adorable. It’s fantastic. It costs less than five bucks. Our little devil is adorable too. Yes, we’ve got a little devil and this is so cute. I want to show your little tail. So again, The leotard is hers, added the tutu. Everything came from the dollar store with the exception of the leotard. So she’s maybe again for five
dollars and how cute is the glow stick? That’s a little pitch fork. Yeah, exactly. And this cheerleader here looks great. She’s so adorable so this is
actually a recycled cheerleading outfit for my closet and we
just added the pom pom and megaphones. Two bucks. So cute and then are little super hero. Yes, we’ve got our super hero, super baby. Come here. Again this is a dollar. This is only a dollar right here. And of coarse every superhero has to have his binky right? That’s right, binky optional. Talking about the glow sticks that is so important just for seeing and safety you’ve got all kinds of those. I’m going to hold these up. Sword shapes and characters we like. Tons of glow sticks and it’s just so great because it’s obviously dark outside right now around seven o’clock so its great for visibility so everyone can see the kids for safety purposes. We need a place to put our candy.
Place to put the candy. We’ve got lots of options to choose. Fairies obviously, we’ve got make up
and again it’s all a dollar and actually if you go to the I
leave happy website they also give you me some other
inspiration for Halloween. So it’s just about kinda thinking
outside the box and see what you’ve got it home. And it’s going to look different for everyone. I mean obviously someone may not have a cheerleading costume at home but be creative. Take what you’ve got at home. Go to the Dollar Tree store and pick out some stuff and within a
matter of minutes you’ve got a five dollar costume. And I know if your kids are like mine
my kids want to wear their costume every day and by Halloween there’s a hole or something So this is a really great option. Especially with the trunk or treats you’ve got going on as well as wearing it to school. Like you
said you’re wearing it five times. So it’s great. We can order online too? You can order online and again if you go to the
website there’s a lot of different options and ideas and really it’s just
about using the Dollar Tree as your Halloween headquarters this year. Yeah, and the tutu came from their too. Yeah, the little tutus. Again, what she’s wearing with the exception of the little
tights and leotard all came from Dollar Tree. So we got the glow sticks. I keep wanting to call them glue sticks. Glow sticks even the little bucket the little Halloween buckets for candy. All from the Dollar Tree. We use glue sticks a lot too. Glow sticks, glue sticks I know. I hear what you’re saying. Thank you so much for being here. Thank you for having us.
