>>Allison Hirth, Reporting: HIS NAME’S T.J. AND HERS IS SABRINA. TOGETHER THEY’RE WORKING TO BRING A TITLE TO TEXAS TECH.>>T.J. Ollison, Cheerleader: I wake up, I think about it. I mean, I go to school, I think about it. I watch it in my spare time. It’s really an important part of my life.>>Allison Hirth: T.J.’S BEEN CHEERING SINCE HE WAS IN SEVENTH GRADE. SABRINA SAYS SHE STARTED WHEN SHE WAS SIX, BUT THE TWO DIDN’T START STUNTING TOGETHER UNTIL 2015 AT TRINITY VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE. LAST YEAR, THEY TRANSFERRED TO TEXAS TECH.>>T.J. Ollison: We’re both from small towns so to be able to cheer in front of a stadium like at Texas Tech, in front of that many people, that is a dream within itself.>>Allison Hirth: BUT ASIDE FROM THE TIME SPENT ON THE SIDELINES, THE TALENTED TWOSOME ALSO COMPETE. IN JANUARY, THEY SHOWED OFF THEIR SKILLS AT THE UCA STUNT CHAMPIONSHIP, WHICH WAS HELD IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA.>>T.J. Ollison: The division we competed in was basically like a branch. It was partner stunt.>>Sabrina Garcia, Cheerleader: Invitation only.>>T.J. Ollison: Yeah, invitation only.>>Sabrina Garcia: So we basically had to make a video and ranked top 14 maybe and only the top 14 out of however many tried out makes it and then from there you go to finals.>>T.J. Ollison: And whoever hits that day is the winner.>>Sabrina Garcia: Yeah.>>Allison Hirth: IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THEY’D COMPETE WEARING A DOUBLE T AND WHEN IT WAS OVER, THEY TOOK HOME A SECOND PLACE TROPHY.>>T.J. Ollison: I mean, that’s all you can really ask for in your athletic career is just do better than you were before.>>Sabrina Garcia: And we hit the cleanest, one of the best performances we had was that competition, so it was really exciting like stepping off the mat, even before we found out what place we got, it was just like we did it, I guess. It was nice to represent Texas Tech.>>Allison Hirth: AND THEY’RE GETTING READY TO REPRESENT THE RED RAIDERS ONCE AGAIN. THIS TIME IN DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA WHERE THEY’LL TRY AGAIN FOR THE TOP SPOT AT THE NCA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN APRIL.>>Sabrina Garcia: We practice every day, whether it’s team, team practices are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, we come early to practice stunt and then we practice Wednesday, Saturday, well Saturday, we cheer the games so we’re still cheering, but Sunday, we also practice, so it’s cheer every day.>>Allison Hirth: THE ROUTINE THEY’LL PERFORM (IS) ONE THEY’VE PRACTICED OVER AND OVER AGAIN (AND) WAS PUT TOGETHER BY SABRINA.>>Sabrina Garcia: Hopefully, this year we get to bring home number one.>>Allison Hirth: THEY’RE NOT ONLY FIGHTING FOR FIRST.>>T.J. Ollison: This is the underdog. I mean, this school’s never won. They don’t have, at cheerleading, they’ve never won, so like we have nothing to lose, only everything to gain.>>Sabrina Garcia: It would mean a lot to us, but for the school, it would really look good.>>Allison Hirth: BUT FIGHTING FOR THE SPORT THEY LOVE.>>Sabrina Garcia: People only see that aspect and they don’t branch out of that. They don’t see the whole competitive side.>>T.J. Ollison: We are athletes. We work out just like athletes do. Everything about it is an athletic mindset.>>Sabrina Garcia: Other sports throw balls, we throw girls.>>Allison Hirth: FOR TEXAS TECH TODAY, I’M ALLISON HIRTH.
