Cheerleading Stunts & Jumps : How to Warm Up for Tumble Track Cheerleading Moves

I’m Mandy Butler on behalf of Expert Village
and we’re going to talk about tumble track warm ups today. The first thing you want to
do any warm up of any kind is going to be design to get your heart rate up and get your
body ready for aerobic activity. I like to start my tumble track warm ups with a straight
jump. What that is really simple. It’s going to help get your body nice and aligned. You’re
going to start with your legs squeezed tightly together, ankles pressed together, knees together,
thighs together, nice tight squeezed bottom. Your torso is going to be nice and straight
and your arms are going to be up above your head with your elbows locked. This is particularly
good for gymnastics warm up because this is the exact position your body will be in a
handstand just upside down. A handstand as we all know, is the foundation of gymnastics.
Any gymnastics you’re going to do, you’re going to have a proper handstand first. What
I’m going to do is I’m going to put my arms up above my head nice and tight. I’m going
to squeeze my bottom and I’m going to push through my toes and do straight jumps all
the way down the tumble track. Notice that my elbows are not going to bend, my knees
are not going to bend. I’m going to be nice and tight and I’m going to be nice and tight
and I’m going to use my feet to propel me toward the end. You can take your time with
this because if you rush, you get a little bit sloppy and you don’t get that correct
body position that we were talking about. Here’s what you’re going to do . Nice and
tight straight jumps all the way down the tumble track.
