The last of the group matches in Sitting Volleyball
at Rio 2016 with Ukraine playing Iran, here in red.
An important match for Ukraine, needing a win to stand any chance of reaching the knockout
stages. No such worries for Iran, as they were already
through after topping Group B with two emphatic victories.
Ukraine started well and led midway through the first set. This brought a quick response
from the Iranians who went on to clinch it 25-22. The second set was an epic, testing the resolve of both teams. At 24 all it was the first team to go two clear who would take it. and it was Iran who
did just that, 28 -26 Ukraine couldn’t find a way back and lost
the third set and the match to miss out on a semi final place.
They’ll play Germany in a 5th and 6th place classification match. Iran, yet to drop a
set in the tournament, play hosts Brazil in the
semi final.
