HOW TO DANCE TO HAVANA For Beginners (Camila Cabello)

Hi everyone, today we’re going to be
dancing to Havana by Camila Cabellow. I’m really excited about this lesson because
I absolutely love dancing to this song because it’s cha-cha based but you can
modernize it with hip-hop or house and many other dance styles and I also
really love Havana if you look at my dance travel vlog, I’ve been working on a
series that takes place in Havana. I really love the Cuban art scene whether
it be fine arts or dancing. so this is gonna be a beginner dance
lesson and we’re going to be doing the cha-cha sidestep like this so as you can see this is a move that I
say has high impact because it’s really cool to look at and it’s not too
difficult to do so you can dance it solo or you can dance it with a girl. If
you’re a woman watching this, then you just have to remember that your side
step is opposite. it’ll be starting with the right foot first going to the right
side but everything else is pretty much the same. now guys if you’re dancing the
cha-cha to the song Havana in a club or a social situation, I guarantee you’ll
have a lot of eyes on you and people won’t just be looking at you, they’ll probably clear out space for you guys to dance so you can make the dance move really big. now unfortunately a lot of women don’t know how to dance the cha-cha so for
guys, you’re definitely gonna have to get a strong lead which means you really
have to get this dance move down and then after that you can teach the
cha-cha, and all your partner has to do is mirror you. so you’re pretty much being like me to them. so I would absolutely love doing a demo with
a girl as well as throw some intermediate steps. all you guys have to
do is click like, subscribe, turn on the notifications on if you can, as well as
leave a comment on things you would like to see. in fact I’m just gonna do a quick
demo of some freestyling and you tell me if there’s something you want to see
from it okay so let’s get into the basic cha cha
side step. it looks like this with the counts one two three cha cha
five six seven cha-cha one two three cha-cha five six seven cha cha. so this
is the cha-cha side step though the real basic cha cha goes back and forth like
this unfortunately, if you’re dancing with a partner who doesn’t know how to
do cha cha, guys then it’s not the best move to do because it’s prone to
tripping especially with the change of directions, it’s hard to communicate.
if you guys want to try it then make sure that you have a firm grip and you
push and pull to indicate the change of directions. This is something you gotta do if you’re dancing with a beginner who doesn’t know how to
do the cha cha but I still recommend that you start with the sidestep because it’s not prone to tripping. okay so let’s do the cha-cha basic sidestep. so you’re going
to start with your feet in a neutral position shoulder width apart just like
this and this is the position that you’re going to return to many times if
you’re a beginner. so the first step we’re going to do is you’re going to
step with your left just like that on the spot. that’s your one and then on two,
right foot goes behind and then three left foot steps. again, so let’s try that
first step on my count five six seven eight one two three just like that.
again one two three, good, again, one two three,
great, so you can see I’m kind of exaggerating the step, stepping really
pronounced so you can follow me but as you get better, you’re going to do it
more in a smooth shuffle just like that so one last time,
on my count, five six seven eight one two three, just like that. okay so the next
step you’re going to do from this position is the cha cha. all you’re
going to do is step back into that neutral position and step again with
your left so that’s your cha cha just like that. so combining it all together
it looks like this, one two three cha cha okay, let’s do it again, one two three cha
cha, okay again, one two three cha cha great, one last time, one two three cha
cha good now the next step you’re going to do is
the exact same thing but to the other side. so this is actually the lady’s
first step and we’re gonna start with right stepping like that, that’s your five
and then six is your left foot behind, seven, right foot steps on the spot, and
then cha cha stepping out with your left and then right stepping on the spot,
again so the right’s just stomping on the spot several times so let’s try it with
me slowl,y so we’re going to go five six seven cha cha like that, again
five 6,7 cha-cha, good again, five six seven
cha-cha, good again, five six seven cha-cha, great. so let’s try it all the
way from the top now so we’ll do it really slowly, looks like this one two three
cha-cha five six seven cha-cha good, so if you’re a beginner you’re probably going to get confused with the hand movements. just try to keep them up like this you don’t have
to roll them around like this. over time as your feet get more natural and you
stop thinking about them, then your hands just roll with your foot movement and also another note is that we’re dancing in this neutral position
for our cha cha but as you get better you can actually create movement with it
and it doesn’t have to be stomp stomp in that neutral position. but that takes
time and practice gotta get the basics down first. okay so let’s start with the
whole thing from the top, on my count slowly, five six seven eight one two
three cha cha five six seven cha-cha one two three cha-cha five six seven cha-cha
one two three cha-cha five six seven cha-cha one two three cha-cha five six
seven cha-cha one two three cha cha five six seven cha-cha, one two
three cha-cha, five six seven cha-cha good, let’s try restarting again from the
top five six seven eight, one two three
cha-cha five six seven cha cha two three cha cha five six seven cha-cha one two
three cha-cha five six seven cha-cha one two three cha-cha five six seven cha cha
great. okay, so now I’m going to show it a few times from behind this video’s not
mirrored and you guys just copy me so we’re gonna start off with this foot. on
my count, five six seven eight one two three cha cha, five six seven cha-cha one
two three cha-cha five six seven cha-cha one two three cha-cha five six seven
cha-cha one two three cha-cha five six seven cha cha. good start again from the
top five six seven eight one two three cha cha, five six seven cha-cha one two
three cha-cha five six seven cha cha 1 2 3 cha-cha 5 6 7 cha-cha one
two three cha-cha five six seven cha-cha one two three cha-cha five six seven
cha cha. hey thanks so much for watching so I’m
gonna split the practices off into a separate video now because some of you
