How to Prepare for Cheerleading Tryouts : Learning the Material for Cheerleading Tryouts

Hi, my name is Lucy Spain on behalf of Expert
Village. Here to talk about an introduction to cheer leading. Now we are ready to learn
the materials that we have in our tryouts. Now the things we are going to learn are a
cheer, a dance, a couple of jumps; usually about 2 sometimes you will get an option of
3 and you can pick your 2. We’re also going to be stunting and tumbling. Now it’s really
important when you are learning these materials to pay attention to whoever is leading. It
may be a coach or a former classmate. Either way you need to be quite and respectful. You
also have to remember there could be a up to 150 girls in a gym wanting to learn this
routine. Now if you are smart, you are going to make your way up to the front where you
can definitely see whoever is teaching the motions. It’s really important to stay up
front if everybody is obviously not going to be up there at once so you need to make
sure you take turns. If someone taps you on the shoulder asking if they can have a turn,
it’s also important to learn from the people who is standing in front of you. If you see
a couple of girls who are on the squad before and they are doing really well, you want to
make sure that you are standing directly behind them so you can copy their motions whatever
they are doing. It’s going to be a lot easier that way than if you are standing behind and
crowded. Be confident, speak up if you miss something, don’t be afraid to raise your hand
say “can you please repeat that”, especially with the dance. Because when there is music
going on and we are learning counts, it’s going to be a little more difficult to pay
attention but this is your time so don’t be afraid to ask. This is a learning experience
for everyone who is there so just go ahead and do your best make sure you pay attention.
Also it’s okay to keep a notebook by your side if you want to write down the words of
the cheer that you can refer to later to go over them, that’s important as well.

  1. lol ur butt was big thats y u didnt make it? if u were good and athletic theres no way u couldnt of made it those coaches were stupid then

  2. Im a freshman this year and sophmore year i want to tryout for cheerleading. i have NO expirience and i really want to be a cheerleader! if i take some classes for cheer do you think i could make the team? do i have to know how to tumble?

  3. Don't give up if you don't make it the first year just keep trying! Practice your heart out. When I tried out my first year everybody was practicing at first but they quit the closer they got to their turn. My group was last but I practiced the whole time and a lot of the time I was the only one sitting there practicing but I didn't care. It paid off and I made the team so many girls that were good didn't make it cause they quit practicing and and psyched themselves out. DON'T DO THAT!
