How to Train for Boxing : Jump Rope Training for Boxing

Hi! My name is Marvin McDowell, USA Boxing
certified boxing trainer. On behalf of Expert Village, I want to show you some jump rope
techniques. First of all, you have to get your rhythm going. Jump, one, two…. To get
a good workout you have to come forward, come back. If I can never get started, but it’s
a simple technique. You jump rope to get your endurance up. This will keep you healthy,
keeps you fit, keeps your body temperature up and it’s a good workout to help you lose
weight and give you the stamina and endurance. So when you jump rope, it’s not the same
as running, but you get the same effect if you were running. Then if you want to get a little fancy with it…You have to keep your rhythm going.
It’s a great exercise to stay fit and to lose weight. My name is Marvin McDowell, founder
and president of UMAR Boxing. “No Hooks Before Books.” Thank you for watching.

  1. @diaboloelectronics Jump roping burns about 11 calories per minute at an average rate. It can burn up to 20 calories a minute if you do it really fast. If you were to jump rope for 30 minutes straight at an average rate you'd burn about 330 calories.

  2. man i love urr videos man, nd im bein serious. ur vids help me alot in my boxing techniques, keep up the good work! πŸ˜€

  3. @Legendism360 Not at all, you gain aerobic resistance with both of them but skipping you also improve your agility and coordination.

  4. @filosofodemierda this will improve your stamina FOR Running. Running will not improve stamina FOR jump rope. i run a lot but jump rope is way harder.

  5. This really helps with running. If you cant get to run outside due to bad weather it is worth jumping rope for the same amount of time as the run each session, when you can get back to your running outside again, you can just carry right on where you left off. Double jumps(double unders) will have you puffing away and dripping with sweat.

  6. Dunno why…other than the reason that i've never been good at jumping rope…but even once i get into my rhythm, the rope comes up and hits my head…its never my feet that stop it…it's my head. Its annoying…and rather painful having a rope hit your head haha any tips?

  7. @Solowizard mayybe be a little bit boring, lil boring…. but its good to get a lil fancy with it…. lil fancy.

  8. Damn they all do these crosses so easily, I can't crack it, and I'm doing it for over a year now. I can jump normally all day long but I just can't visualise how that rope should go in a crossover, it kills me aaaaa!!!:[

  9. @eaglehdz1

sounds like something out of south park if u ignore the vid and just listen to the audio haha

  10. I HAVE QUESTION ….. I RUN A LOT TO INCREASE MY STAMINA BUT JUMP ROPING DOES SAME AS RUNNING ……. IDK ……… PLEASE HELP ……

  11. @OBARRVAGOS Jumprope is a great cardio exercise, but running is the best for you, and for building leg muscle. Running outside of course, which is more effective and physically demanding than a flat treadmill.

  12. @Anonx78345 Not in a rude way, but is that the analysis of a fitness trainer? Because, I'm not a fitness trainer or anything as such, but I believe jump rope is better for a few reasons, one of them being it is much less impact on your legs.

  13. i've been wondering about this, i see a lot of fitness people's jump ropes have big thick handles. but still there's skinny-handled ropes in the fitness market. which is better? or does it make a difference?

  14. the thick handle ones are speed ropes with a bearing in the handle so u dont really swing the rope just kinda juke it around…a speed rope is a little harder to skip with

  22. That's just what I liked about it. He could have easily started again, or edited the video. The fact that he didn't shows just how comfortable he is with himself and his skills, and how little he worries about what others think of him. Respect.
