Interhouse Sports @ UTSC – Anyone can be an athlete

>>I really think sports is a great stress reliever for students. I think, you know, for 25 minutes to half an hour really helps me like destress, you know, not think about school for a little bit of time and just enjoy a sport that I love [Background Music].>>So UTSC Interhouse program is an opportunity for students to sign up as a team or as an individual to participate in sports that they’re interested in. For example, at UTSC we provide cricket, basketball, ultimate frisbee, soccer, volleyball, and it’s just a great opportunity for students to sign up with their friends, sign up with maybe their program or sign up as free agents just to participate in a sport on a weekly basis.>>I think the good thing about the Interhouse program is that it’s not only flexible but accommodatable for people of all skill levels. We have recreational division and a competitive division for– for all sports, and I think those who want to try a new sport I think Interhouse offers that.
>>I think part of the Interhouse program is the accepting environment that we have here. So, it’s not just where we get students who want to compete, but also students who want to try a new sport.>>Exactly.
>>Students who want to play in a sport that they really enjoy to play regardless of skill level. And then also social, meeting other people, that’s one of the biggest benefits that I’ve gotten out of UTSC.>>Yeah. Exactly. I think meeting new people is one of the biggest things here at UTSC. I think some people I wouldn’t have met otherwise, I think I’ve met here at Interhouse soccer.>>I think students should get more involved in sports, I mean, just as a way to either destress.>>Yeah.
>>Or just getting some physical activity, I mean it really provides that physical aspect and physical benefits.>>I really think anyone can be an athlete because we have a wide variety of opportunities for everyone and it’s a very flexible schedule, and all you have to do is come out and be a part of it.>>And just to add on to that, I really want to emphasize the importance, or like emphasize how strong really focus on both trying to get good level, like different levels of players out.>>Yeah.>>And also focussing on getting different genders out. I think the biggest advice I give to students who want to get involved but didn’t know how it’s just do it.>>Exactly.
>>I mean, sign up for something, whether it’s fitness classes, Interhouse, intramurals, sign up for something, come out.>>And also try something new, if it’s not your first sport try something new, I think UTSC does a great job of offering all the sports and at all skill levels and I think you should take– take advantage of that.
