Lance Armstrong Rolex and Panerai Collection | SwissWatchExpo [Watch Collection]

From SwissWatchExpo…
Spotlight On: Former athlete and sports personality Lance Armstrong… and his choice timepieces. Former road racing cyclist, and Tour de France
titlist Lance Armstrong, has bounced back from his notorious cycling career — reinventing
himself both as an entrepreneur, and media personality. These days, he’s busy with Next Ventures,
an investment firm focusing on the health and wellness industry; and WEDŪ (we-do),
an endurance sports brand that he co-founded. He’s also built himself an audience online
with “The Move”, a podcast on endurance sports. All these, while running various entrepreneurial
ventures. Clearly, Lance Armstrong is back on track. We went watch spotting to see what the multi-hyphenate
has been wearing on his wrist. Stay tuned, to find out! Lance has been wearing Rolex for decades now,
and his favorite models are the GMT Master and Daytona. The Rolex GMT-Master 2 Coke, with a black
and red bezel, is the watch most associated with the former athlete. The name “Coke” came from the watch’s
Coca-Cola bottle color scheme, and from the established soda names of the Rootbeer and
Pepsi GMT watches. The Coke was produced from 1983 until 2007. While it is no longer being produced by Rolex,
it continues to be in demand in the pre-owned watch market today.
Up next on Lance’s collection is the stainless steel Rolex Cosmograph Daytona. The Rolex Daytona reference 116520 (one one
six five twenty) was introduced in the Baselworld Fair of 2000. With the watch came Rolex’s first completely
in-house movement in more than 50 years: the Caliber 4130 (forty one thirty). The movement was the result of many years
of development, and came with a fully-integrated, self-winding chronograph function. The reference 116520 was discontinued in 2016,
and replaced by the ceramic bezel version. It remains a much coveted timepiece, especially
among Rolex collectors and Daytona fans. The watch that is often seen with Lance these
days is the Rolex Daytona with a Cerachrom ceramic bezel, reference 116500 (one one six
five hundred). There are two dials available for this highly
coveted watch – black and white – and Lance’s choice is the white Panda dial with
black subdials. Although it made its debut back in 2016, there’s
still a years-long waitlist for the popular model. Enjoying this video so far? Subscribe to our

wearing Panerai timepieces, specifically the Panerai Luminor. The Panerai Luminor 1950 is very similar to
the most popular model of the brand, the Luminor Marina. Both come with Panerai’s signature curved
and rounded case, and semi-circular crown protector. From the side however, the Luminor 1950, sometimes
has its acrylic crystal domed — and the sides sweep back more gracefully. Panerai watches have also been equipped with
complications over time, such as GMT and power reserve functions. Lance wears a Panerai Luminor GMT Automatic,
which has a 24 hour indication on the edge, and a seconds subdial at 9 o’clock.
The perfect choice for a busy, multi-tasking achiever. Lance Armstrong has a curated collection,
but his choice timepieces win in reliability, and function. Which watch was your favorite? Tell us in
