Mitarbeiter bei Gira: Netzwerken auf der grünen Wiese

I wanted to be an ice-cream seller when I was a little girl because I thought that would mean I could eat ice creams all day. You could say that pretty much I every project work on has something to do with simplifying complexity, or making the lives of employees here at Gira a little bit easier. I take care of all the systems – mainly SAP systems for the areas of production, logistics, materials requirement planning, and QM. If something is needed or an improvement can be made, then I deal with it. I started working here the very next day after finishing my studies. There have been times when I’ve had a fright, if I’ve ported something over into a productive system i.e. made a change – and then everything goes wrong – then you get a brief shock and think “Oh God, hopefully production hasn’t ground to a halt.” But I’ve always had somebody on hand to help. Although we live so far away from Cologne here, I feel very connected with Cologne There’s a very relaxed environment there and the people are really funny. Volleyball is very similar to my work in some ways – you have to keep a lot of things in mind all at the same time. Even things that may not be obvious at first sight. And you have to take the right decisions just at the right moment. I hope that things continue for me as they have been for the past few years. With each project, I’m learning a whole lot more. I think that my biggest challenge is yet to come: dealing with our new facility. For me, based in IT, this means in practice that I can help supervise a completely new system, as we’ve been able to start on the greenfield at the new site. Actually implementing this is going to be a huge amount of work, but it will be very exciting to see the initial results. The new building is taking shape. See the whole story online
