New Oxford High School cheerleading squad is national champion

WHAT WILL BE BEHIND THIS WINTRY MIX? WE WILL TALK ABOUT THAT COMING UP IN FIVE MINUTES. AFTER SEVEN YEARS OF TRYING, THE NEW OXFORD HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADING SQUAD IS A NATIONAL CHAMPION TONIGHT. ED WEINSTOCK WAS THERE WHEN THEY GOT HOME. IT IS A BIG MOMENT IN THE LIVES OF THESE HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADERS. ON MONDAY THEY RETURNED TO A HERO’S WELCOME A NEW OXFORD HIGH SCHOOL. WE’VE NEVER HAD THAT FEELING BEFORE. IT FEELS GREAT. ON SATURDAY, THE CHEERLEADING TEAM OUT SHARED SOME OF THE BEST CHEERLEADING TEAMS IN THE COUNTRY. A FORMER CHEERLEADER TOOK THIS VIDEO. I WAS CRYING THE WHOLE TIME. NEW OXFORD WENT UP AGAINST 18 OTHER TEAMS TO COME OUT ON TOP OF ITS DIVISION, MEDIUM VARSITY COED. WE HAD A LOT OF COMPETITION IN FLORIDA AND THERE WERE TEAMS THAT WERE COMING FOR US BECAUSE THEY KNOW HOW GOOD WE ARE. EACH MEMBER WAS AWARDED A GOLD MEDAL AND A WHITE JACKET WITH THE LETTERS NHSCC. THEY RECEIVED A BIG TROPHY THAT HEAD COACH DIANE TOPPER SAYS MAYBE TOO BIG FOR THE TROPHY CASE. I’M NOT SURE IS GOING TO FIT. I’M NOT YOUR WARES GOING TO FIT IN. [LAUGHTER] IT WAS REALLY NICE KNOWING THAT THEY ALL STOOD BEHIND US. ED WEINSTOCK, NEWS 8.
