New Truck for Shari?

New Truck for Shari?

– They’re beautiful, aren’t they? – Last year we hired to
drive the kids to school. This year is a little different. – With the seat presets, does this mean I ever
get to drive your truck? – [Dad] Absolutely. (mom gasps) – What? – What if Shari wanted to drive the truck and you kept with the car to go to work? (upbeat music) Good morning, passengers. I am coming at you today
straight from my laundry room. We have a lot planned
today but the first thing that we’re gonna do is
clean out one cabinet. It’s a mess. (upbeat music) All right, these are items
that are going to the donate. I’m gonna put him in a bag and put them in the back of the van and
be done with that portion. Okay, so about a year ago I
decided I’m gonna have fun mopping my floors and I
bought three different mops. Actually, this I bought
because I saw an influencer tell me how much she loved it. And Nali was making messes
on the floor at the time so I thought I’m gonna get it. I used it once and I hated it. So why didn’t I just donate
it after I decided I hated it? Well, because I spent like $85 on it and I didn’t want to waste
the money so instead of just wasting $85 I also wasted
valuable space in my home. I know, it doesn’t make
sense to me either. This, Ellie uses and okay, I’ve got to say I absolutely love this. Loved it. I just didn’t love how like,
do you see all the dirt and debris and like the? I used this to mop the garage floor. You wouldn’t believe me if I told you I’ve washed this five times
and I still have things in it. It just doesn’t wash up very
nice for what I’m using it for which is the garage. So, I’m gonna donate this as well. Look at me now. (upbeat music) You pooped? – Yup. I’m done. – So last night Abby text my dad and she’s like hey, do you want
to come play tennis with me in the morning? I thought that was so cute. Do you remember the video
when Abby went snow tubing with Olivia up at Bonnie
and Ellie’s property? (upbeat music) That night we got home, well the next morning
she’s like I am so sore. I can’t move. My back is broken. My legs are Jell-O. And I said Abby, you ran up
and down that sledding hill like 20 times and your
body’s not used to it. You’re just used to like
laying in your bed and reading. What’s the matter? – [Boy] Bloody nose. – Let me see. You’re okay. But I told Abby, I said,
I said I don’t care if you play sports or not but
it is important that you have some kind of physical activity. But she’s like, I don’t know,
I don’t want to do anything, I don’t want to. And so then I was in a
position I’m like do I control? Do I force her? How do how do you do this when you’re trying to teach
a kid that they need exercise but they don’t want to? So I listed several activities. I’m like, taking a walk around the block, swim, tennis, soccer, jogging, bike riding, rollerblading. I just listed a whole bunch
and I said in the morning, I’m gonna give you the
night to think about it. In the morning I want
you to come back to me with your answer what you’re going to do to take care of your
body in a physical way. She was not happy about it and she walked off not too happy. But in the morning she
came to me she’s like, mom, I’ve decided I’m gonna do tennis. And I said all right, tennis it is. And so she’s been taking
tennis lessons all summer. And she’s learned to really enjoy it. And she’s learning to be more
physical and it’s awesome. (upbeat music) (laughing) Good job, Abby. So who won that game? Grandpa? – They’re beautiful. Aren’t they? (upbeat music) – [Mom] No. – Why? – [Mom] No. – Please. – [Mom] Russell’s like, please. – Please. (upbeat music) – So I have to tell you
a story about my grandpa which is your great-grandpa. So you know grandpa Griffis? Who played tennis with you this morning? His dad, when he was in, he was in a, he was in a care facility
when he was older. You know what he did? He called a truck company
and told them he was thinking about buying a truck and he
asked the salesmen to bring a truck over to this old folks
home and he sat in the truck thinking he was gonna buy it. The truck people called
grandpa Griffis and said, we have a man here that thinks
he’s gonna be buying a truck and my dad’s like, don’t sell him a truck. He’s just going a little senile. (laughs) Isn’t that’s funny? The last thing he wanted before
he died was to get himself that truck he always wanted. (upbeat music) – I don’t even know what these buttons do. But they’re fun to flip. (laughing) – [Mom] You’re having too much fun. (laughing) – Look, the seat. With the seat presets, does this mean I ever
get to drive your truck? – [Dad] Absolutely. (mom gasps) – What, really? You would let me? – [Dad] Why wouldn’t I? – Because it’s brand new and really nice. – What if Shari wanted to drive the truck and you kept the car to go to work? And we let Shari have the truck? It’s a thought. – [Dad] It’s a thought. – It’s a thought. So, Kevin and I are here looking
for trucks for two reasons. The number one most important
reason is logistics. School starts on Wednesday. Last year we hired a neighbor
to drive the kids to school. This year is a little different. He has a different
schedule and we got looking at the the numbers and we
thought, you know what, if we took the money that we
were paying Kaden to drive the kids and we use that
to get another vehicle, then Shari could just
drive the kids to school. We just don’t know which
vehicle she’s gonna drive yet. But that would mean Kevin
needs to take a vehicle to BYU to work and then I would
still need a vehicle to get around as well. So we kind of need three vehicles. The reason we’re thinking
about getting a truck, didn’t occur to us until after we took Chad to Anasazi and this whole wilderness program has just really, it’s literally changed
our family and got us talking and thinking in a
completely new and different way. In the past for vacations
we’ve gone places and just like hoteled
it and Chad has always said well, can we go camping? We bought some property a year ago. Do you guys remember the video
where we bought new property? We haven’t been to visit it since. If we got a truck we could easily throw like bikes in the back and go camping. Or Kevin could throw
fishing poles in the back and take Chad onto the
river and go fishing. We want to make a strategic
and purposeful change in our family where we
enjoy the outdoors more. We think it’s very beneficial and healthy for your emotional health to be outside and so that’s the other reason why we’re thinking of getting a truck. – Dad, I’d really like to park my car here because it’s hard to back out. When there’s a truck. – [Mom] Can’t we try parking the truck in the driveway next to the van? – [Shari] Why not use the garage? – Why not use the garage? – [Mom] Because we have bikes and… – So you want a big empty
space in the garage? (upbeat music) – I think he likes it. All right, all right you guys. We’re gonna go test
drive a few other trucks. We will let you know
what we end up deciding. Our family’s changing and it’s fun. And it’s really scary
for me to go this route. I’ve never been into trucks or… – [Boy] I’ve been into trucks. – I feel like getting a truck
is like opening up myself to a whole new world. And I don’t know if I’m ready for it. – Just stick your hand out
of the sunroof and enjoy it. (upbeat music) – All right, an update. We’re back in the van
and we’re driving home. And what did we buy? – [Boy] Nothing. – Nothing. I think we were sticker shocked
and we are big believers in going with your gut and we
came with the full intention of buying a truck and nothing
sat and our gut right. And Kevin said you know, I’m feeling done. – And disappointed. I really wanted to drive
one home today but. Not gonna happen. – It’s not gonna happen. We’ll keep looking and
maybe if we see something that where it sits right
in our gut will act on it but for now we’ll just have to I don’t
know, figure something out with Shari and the kids
’til it does feel right. Thanks for watching, bye. (upbeat music)
