One man’s journey to become a Broncos cheerleader


My name is Dan and I work for a carpet wholesaler. It’s hard sometimes, because I’m a deeply
creative person. In my soul, I’m a dancer. My mates laugh, but the ladies like it when
I dance. I’m very respectful. There’s a psychological connection. People are sometimes surprised when they hear
I’m not formally trained. I just hear the music and it flows through me like, lava. That said, I’m always learning, I go to
classes when I can. I’ve been auditioning as a Broncos cheerleader
for years but I don’t know … they always said no. Sometimes they’d let me rehearse
with them and they let me hang with them on game days, but for some reason, I never got
the gig. I hate to say the word ‘jealousy’ but
ah… That day I knew I would get into trouble,
but Wayne Bennett’s words “Don’t Let The Music Die Within You” were going around
and around in my mind. My mate Michael was dry driver that day, so
yeah I’d had a couple of beers. But I wasn’t drunk, just inspired. I saw my moment and
I thought yes! Dance, Dan, Dance! And I did. I had my moment. When Michael told me to cut it, I was all
right with that. The dance was finally free.
