Osseo H.S. Student Doesn’t Let Hair Loss Disease Define Her

. SHE’S A HIGH-END GYMNAST, A CHEERLEADER AND A STRAIGHT-A STUDENT. AND SHE’S DONE IT WHILE ENDURING THE STAIRS OF MANY. SHE HAS A CONDITION. ONE THAT HAS MADE HER HER OWN PERSON. SHE WAS A FOUR-YEAR-OLD DARLENE. AND THEN THEY GOT THE NEWS. TOOK HER TO A DERMATOLOGIST AND THAT IS WHAT IT WAS. I DIDN’T REALIZE IT WAS GOING TO COME OUT SO FAST AND IT DID. AS A MOM, IT WAS HEARTBREAKING, YOU KNOW. YOU DIDN’T WANT YOUR DAUGHTER TO HAVE TO GO THROUGH THAT AND HAVE PEOPLE MAKE FUN OF HER. Reporter: TAYLOR HAS ALOPECIA, A CONDITION ROBBING YOU OF YOUR HAIR AND THAT IS ONLY THE BEGINNING TO THE STORY. SHE IS NOW 16 AND ACTIVE. A GYMNAST AND CHEERLEADER AND A CAN-DO ATTITUDE. AND I THINK SHE MADE IT HER OWN WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY. SHE’S MORE THAN CONFIDENT IN HER OWN SKIN AND IS NOT AFRAID TO DO ANYTHING. Reporter: SHE CHOSE TO DO WHAT SHE LOVES TO DO AS AN ATHLETE AND EXAMPLE. AND YOU GET PEOPLE IN THE STORES LOOKINGAL YOU WEIRD AND ASKING QUESTIONS AND STARE AT YOU. I MEAN, YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO LOVE WHO YOU ARE. Reporter: AFTER YOU MEET HER, YOU REALIZE THAT IS THE REAL STORY. AND THAT AT A TIME OF LIFE WHEN VAIN IS A PART OF TEENAGE YEARS, SHE HAS ACSEPTEMBERRED SHE HAS LOOKED IT — ACCEPTED AND LOOKED IT IN THE MIRROR AND BECOME A ROLE MODEL. IT’S SHOWN ME TO LOVE MYSELF AND LIKE IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK AS LONG AS YOU’RE PROUD OF YOURSELF. AND THAT IS YOUR TAKEAWAY THAT SHE WON’T LET OTHERS FRAME HER LIFE OR HER DREAMS. THAT HAD MISSION IS ABOUT STAYING ACTIVE AND PARTICIPATING AND PUTTING A PREMIUM ON SELF-ESTEEM. I LOVE IT. I — SELF-ESTEEM. I LOVE IT. YOU GET TO SHOW PEOPLE YOU ARE WHO YOU ARE AND YOU HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO DEAL WITH IT. THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE SHE MAKES IN OTHER PEOPLE’S LIVES. SHE’S MADE ME STRONGER. IN THE BEGINNING, IT WAS REALLY HARD ON ME AND THEN I SEE THE WAY SHE DEALS WITH IT AND I LEARN FROM HER. SHE BASICALLY TAUGHT ME, YOU KNOW, HOW TO DEAL WITH IT AND SO, YOU KNOW, THAT HAS REALLY HUNDRED ME A LOT. Reporter: AND THAT IS THE LEGACY SHE’S BUILDING, THAT IT’S ALL ABOUT WHAT IS AND WHAT CAN BE. SHE’S NOT PERFECT. WE HAVE OUR ISSUES BUT I MEAN I CAN’T ASK FOR A BETTER DAUGHTER. A STUDENT, INVOLVED, GREAT HEART — SHE’S OUTSTANDING.
