Raising anti-bullying awareness through basketball

TERESA: WELCOME BACK. YOU ARE WATCHING “CT STYLE.” OUR NEXT GUESTS ARE TRYING TO BEEN AN END TO BULLYING. SARAH: JOINING US TO TALK ABOUT AN ANTI-BULLYING AWARENESS EVENT THROUGH BASKETBALL IS DEVOLVES THEM AND AN HALIFAX HURRICANE PLAYER TUTTI ZIMMERMAN. THANK YOU FOR JOINING US. THANK YOU FOR HAVING US. SARAH: TELL US HOW YOU ARE TACKLING THE ISSUE OF BULLYING THROUGH BASKETBALL. AS A ROLE MODEL AND AN INFLUENCER AT LARGE IN THE COMMUNITY, I FEEL LIKE IT IS IMPERATIVE FOR ME AND US TO PUSH POSITIVITY. WE PUSH POSITIVITY THROUGH SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS, THIS COOL T-SHIRT — TERESA: THAT SAYS I’M THE BUDDY, NOT THE BULLY. SPORTING EVENTS, AND A BASKETBALL GAME WE ARE PUTTING TOGETHER WITCHES — IS BEING HELD AT HOLY CROSS HIGH SCHOOL OCTOBER 26. THE GAME IS MADE UP OF MIDDLE SCHOOL — TOP MIDDLE SCHOOL PLAYERS. WE GET THE TOP KIDS THROUGHOUT THE CONNECTICUT AREA VERSUS THE SCHOOLKIDS IN THE NEW YORK AREA. WE WILL — EVERY EVENT WE HAVE, WE START THE CEREMONY BY SPEAKING ON BULLYING AND HOW IT IS IMPACTFUL. THINGS LIKE THAT. MY BROTHER, WE WORK VERY HARD IN THE COMMUNITY AND TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT WE LIGHTEN THE LOAD, AND TELLING KIDS IT IS COOL TO BE THE BUDDY. TERESA: YOU GUYS ARE FROM WATERBURY. YOU HAVE PLAYED AT HOLY CROSS AND NOW YOU JUST RE-SIGNED. YES. JUST RE-SIGNED A ONE DEAL — WHEN YOUR DEAL WITH THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL LEAGUE OF CANADA. WE ARE EXCITED AND BLESSED FOR THAT OPPORTUNITY. JUST TO REITERATE WHAT HE SAID ABOUT BULLYING, I’M VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT BULLYING, IT IS SUCH A SENSITIVE TOPIC FOR ME BECAUSE I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I USED TO BE OVERWEIGHT. I WAS BULLIED AT TIMES. IT WAS NOT A GOOD FEELING. ON THE OTHERS OF THE SPECTRUM, I REMEMBER AT TIMES I WAS — I WOULD JOKINGLY SAY BAD THINGS TO KIDS AND TALK ABOUT THE SNEAKERS THEY HAD ON. I DIDN’T REALIZE HOW SENSITIVE AND HOW MUCH THAT CAN AFFECT A KID, AND JUST BEING ON BOTH SIDES OF THE SPECTRUM, I FEEL LIKE IT IS A TERRIBLE THING TO DO. IT’S A VITAL ISSUE IN OUR COMMUNITY TODAY THAT WE NEED TO PUT A STOP TO. SARAH: BRINGING THEM TOGETHER FOR SOMETHING LIKE BASKETBALL, ARE YOU TRYING TO BUILD TEAMWORK, MUTUAL RESPECT, HOW WILL YOU WORK WITH THEM TO PREVENT THE BULLYING? AGAIN, WITH THE EVENT, GETTING ALL THE KIDS IN A NEUTRAL LOCATION WHERE THEY ARE ABLE TO LEARN AND EPHESUS ON THE BETTERMENT OF BEING A BUDDY VERSUS THE NEGATIVITY AND THE DETRIMENT OF THE BULLYING ASPECT. WE WANT TO PUSH IT IN REGARDS TO RECEIVING THAT I’M THE BUDDY. NOT THE BULLY. TERESA: PLAYING BASKETBALL PROBABLY HELPS A LOT. IT BUILDS CONFIDENCE, GETS KIDS ACTIVE, THEY DON’T GET IN TROUBLE IF THEY ARE PRACTICING. ABSOLUTELY. I TRY TO USE MY PLATFORM AS A PROFESSIONAL TO REACH AND TEACH AND EDUCATE THE YOUTH IN THE COMMUNITY TO DO THE RIGHT THING. TERESA: THEY GO. ALL THE INFORMATION IS ON THE SCREEN. IT IS HAPPENING OCTOBER 26, HOLY CROSS HIGH SCHOOL IN WATERBURY. GOOD LUCK. I HOPE CT WINS. IF ANYONE WANTS TO SPONSOR, YOU CAN CONTACT ME OR MY BROTHER. SPONSORSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE.
