RENSSELAER HIGH SCHOOL PARENTS ARE SPEAKING OUT AFTER THEIR KIDS WERE FORCED TO STAY ON A BUS DURING FRIDAY NIGHT’S TORNADO WARNING.NEWS 18’S KAYLA SULLIVAN REPORTS CHEERLEADERS HAD A CHANCE TO GO INSIDE A SAFE BUILDING BUT WERE INSTRUCTED TO STAY ON THE BUS..KAYLA, DO WE KNOW WHY? NO, AND PARENTS ARE AFRAID THEY WON’T GET TO BECAUSE THE PEOPLE INVOLVED WEREN’T AT A MEETING THIS MORNING.PRINCIPAL ANDREW JONES, ATHLETIC DIRECTOR KENNETH HICKMAN, AND CHEER COACH KAITLYN HEILMAN WERE THE ONES IN CHARGE ON FRIDAY.BUT SUPERINTENDENT NED SPEICHER FOUND IT BEST TO HOLD THE MEETING WITHOUT THEM.#@ KAYLA: IT’S A CALL NO PARENT WANTS TO GET.JESSICA: “IT FELT TO ME LIKE SHE WAS TELLING ME GOODBYE,”AMY HOULE: “SHE SAID I LOVE YOU, TELL ALEAH THAT I LOVE HER, KISS THE BABY FOR ME,”BRANDI CLAPP: “I TOLD HER TO GET OFF THE BUS, SHE SAID THE COACH WAS BLOCKING THE DOOR SHE CAN’T, SHE WON’T LET THEM OFF, I TOLD HER TO USE THE EMERGENCY EXIT THAT’S WHAT IT’S FOR,”KAYLA: FOR REASONS STILL UNKNOWN, THE RENSSELAER CHEERLEADING SQUAD WAS TOLD TO STAY ON THE BUS AS TORNADO SIRENS WENT OFF DURING FRIDAY’S FOOTBALL GAME AT TWIN LAKES HIGH SCHOOL, EVEN THOUGH THE FOOTBALL TEAM AND THE REST OF THE CROWD WERE SAFE INDOORS. SUPERINTENDENT: “A MISTAKE HAS BEEN MADE, WE WILL DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO RECTIFY IT,”KAYLA: SUPERINTENDENT NED SPEICHER SAYS POLICY WAS NOT FOLLOWED DURING THE WARNING. HE LISTENED TO CHEERLEADERS’ AND PARENTS’ COMPLAINTS AT A MEETING MONDAY MORNING, BUT DECIDED NOT TO INVITE THE SCHOOL OFFICIALS INVOLVED. STEVEN WAREING: “I DID NOT REALIZE IT WAS GOING TO BE WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT, AND SO I WAS A LITTLE FRUSTRATED WITH THAT,”KAYLA STANDUP: “PARENTS SAY ATHLETIC DIRECTOR KENNETH HICKMAN TOLD THE GIRLS IF THEY THOUGHT IT WAS ILLOGICAL TO STAY ON THE BUS THEY COULD TURN IN THEIR UNIFORMS ON MONDAY,”HOULE: “I WON’T LET MY DAUGHTER QUIT, I DON’T KNOW HOW THE OTHER PARENTS FEEL, MY DAUGHTER WASN’T ONE OF THE ONES WHO WAS GETTING SCREAMED AT IN HER FACE,”KAYLA: BUT CLAPP’S DAUGHTER WAS, SHE SAYS HICKMAN YELLED AT HER FOR JUMPING OFF THE BUS AND GOING INTO THE SCHOOL.CLAPP: “SO BADLY THAT SOMEONE HAD TO PULL HIM AWAY TO TELL HIM THAT IT’S NOT RIGHT,”KAYLA: CITING PRIVACY LAWS..   1. that teacher should be fired, that school should be sued by the parents, closed by the government, and get a new principle to reform the safety in the school.

  2. "A mistake has been made." I'm pretty sure this is much more than a simple "mistake". If a tornado did hit that bus, it would have been tragic.

  3. Crap like this starts at the top and rolls down hill. That son of a bitch needs his ass caved in and then kicked out the door. Typical lazy ass civil service attitudes.

    Kudos to the young mother on telling her daughter to utilize the bus’s emergency exit because, well, it was an emergency. Lady is smart as hell.

    The parents might want to inspect the school district’s written disaster management plan (if they have one) to see if it is up to date and if school admin conducts mandatory annual tornado in-services to all adult staff, teachers, support staff and of course, school bus drivers. Evidence of training received needs to be inserted in their employment record.
